World splits identity and finance with launch of self-custodial World Money app in 150+ countries

The stablecoin payments and rewards app, run by Tools for Humanity, marks the final step in separating World's financial products from its identity business.

World Money, the self-custodial financial app from the World network, went live Thursday in more than 150 countries, according to an announcement from World. The launch completes a split that moves the project's identity and financial services into two separate applications.

The app brings together stablecoin payments, trading and yield-style rewards in one place. Users can transfer supported digital assets — stablecoins included — to another person's World username rather than a wallet address, park qualifying assets to earn rewards, and trade digital assets via integrated exchanges.

Third-party integrations arrive through what World calls "Mini Apps," including prediction market Kalshi and lending protocols Credit and Morpho. Under a deal with payments firm Stripe, US users can load their accounts and purchase stablecoins using Apple Pay; World said that capability starts in the United States first.

Tools for Humanity, the company co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, operates World Money. It is the same firm that builds the technology underpinning the broader World network.

Two apps, one account

World now divides its offering between World ID App, which handles identity verification and credentials, and World Money, which carries the wallet, payments and other financial tools. People who already hold World App or World ID accounts can sign in to World Money with their existing credentials, the company said.

The separation is the latest stage in a build-out that began when World App launched in May 2023, bundling World ID with a crypto wallet, stablecoin transfers and token trading. An October 2024 update, World App 3.0, added third-party Mini Apps and a Vault feature for earning on holdings — the version World billed at the time as a "super app for humans."

More recently, World piloted virtual bank accounts for US users in November 2025, then extended them to additional countries the following month. Those accounts accept paychecks and bank transfers, which the app converts into USDC, the US dollar stablecoin.

Feature availability in World Money will differ from country to country, World said, without detailing which markets get which functions first beyond the US-specific Apple Pay funding route.
